Q. Is bulky trash pickup on a route, or on-demand? What about brush?

Chattanoogans can once again request bulky trash pickup from 311. For the past year, crews on regular collection routes collected bulky trash (like old grills, appliances, mattresses, and TVs), and residents did not need to submit a request.

The city switched back to the old system on April 1. Now, city residents should call, email, use the 311 app, or go online for bulky trash collection.

Brush collection will remain on the scheduled routes, with city workers removing piled tree branches and twigs as they see them.

The city will NOT remove the following items through bulky trash collection:

  • Auto parts

  • Household garbage

  • Insulation

  • Bricks

  • Liquids

  • Lumber

  • Propane tanks

  • Concrete

  • Tires

  • Glass and Mirrors

See the bulky trash guidelines here.

Brush guidelines

Do not include garbage, lumber, or treated wood like pallets and particle boards. Separate natural brush from piles of leaves and bulky trash. The city does not remove land clearing.

See the brush guidelines here.
