Help us shape the future of local journalism in Chattanooga

About us

Chattamatters explains local government and tells the stories that connect Chattanoogans to the place we call home.

We launched in 2022 as a program of The Enterprise Center, and now we’re making plans that would allow us to continue our work in an even bigger way.

To make sure we are providing Chattanoogans with the news and information they need most, we want to hear from you and your neighbors. Throughout the spring, we’ll be doing research, and we’ll be listening to local residents. This will guide our efforts to expand our work, and it will help us demonstrate what kind of local news and information our community needs most.

There are a variety of ways to make your voice heard and inform the future of our work in Chattanooga.

Become a community listening ambassador

Earn $20/hour talking to friends and neighbors about local news and community information. The commitment is roughly 3-5 hours per week, for 4-6 weeks.

Take our 5-minute survey

The first 100 Chattanooga residents who respond will receive a $5 incentive (Cash App, Venmo, or Amazon gift card).

Participate in a listening session

A listening session is an informal small-group discussion in which we hear your thoughts, opinions, and concerns about the information you need about your local community, how you access it, and what you want to see from local news. Sessions last no longer than 2 hours and host a maximum of 15 people. Free, light refreshments provided, registration required.

We are seeking partners to host community listening sessions. We want to hear from people from a variety of economic, political, faith, generational, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds. Examples of partners include neighborhood groups, houses of worship, cultural organizations, and civic groups.
